Triumph Higher Education Group completed its acquisition of the Culinary Institute of Barcelona (CIB) on July 17, 2026, folding the Barcelona-based school into a culinary education portfolio that already includes Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts — the largest culinary school brand in the United States — and Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts in Vancouver, British Columbia. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Scale and Reach
The combined network will now serve more than 8,000 students annually, supported by an alumni community exceeding 25,000 and more than 150 faculty and chef instructors operating across North America and Europe. For foodservice operators and hospitality groups recruiting culinary talent, the expanded pipeline represents one of the larger cross-border training networks in the industry. CIB itself has trained more than 1,300 students from more than 100 nationalities since its founding in 2017, offering professional diploma and specialization programs in haute cuisine, pastry arts, advanced culinary techniques, healthy cooking, kitchen leadership, and restaurant management.
CIB's Barcelona campus maintains internship partnerships with more than 200 leading restaurants internationally — a placement network that will now be accessible to students across Triumph's full institution roster. The school was a nominee for Europe's Best Culinary Training Institution at the World Culinary Awards in both 2025 and 2026.
What Changes for Students and Programs
CIB will continue operating from its central Barcelona campus with no disruption to current students or programs. Triumph said the institute will retain its faculty, methodology, and existing industry relationships while operating within Triumph's culinary division. New cross-border student pathways will include study-abroad experiences in Spain, expanded online learning options, and shared access to a global faculty network.
The acquisition has direct implications for the back-of-house talent pipeline that commercial kitchen operators depend on. CIB's curriculum emphasizes creativity, entrepreneurship, and kitchen leadership — competencies increasingly sought by multi-unit operators, ghost kitchen platforms, and commissary kitchen operators scaling culinary teams across geographies. A significant majority of CIB alumni go on to launch their own food businesses, according to the institution, signaling a strong entrepreneurial bent that dovetails with the growth of independent commissary and cloud kitchen ventures.
"CIB's approach to culinary education, built on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, is a natural fit with the Triumph family," said Jack Larson, chairman, CEO and president of Triumph Higher Education Group. "We welcome CIB's students, faculty and partners to Triumph as we work together to cultivate rewarding, meaningful careers for culinary professionals around the world."
Josep Gala Micó, co-founder and president of CIB, framed the deal as a platform for geographic expansion: "Our students, faculty and alumni will keep the methodology and identity that define CIB in Barcelona, while gaining access to expanded resources, employer networks and career pathways that reach across North America and beyond."
For foodservice equipment dealers and kitchen designers tracking where culinary training investment is flowing, the Triumph-CIB combination signals continued institutional confidence in professional kitchen education infrastructure — both in the U.S. and in high-growth European gastronomy markets. Spain's culinary tourism sector continues to expand, sustaining demand for skilled kitchen professionals that purpose-built training facilities are designed to produce. Operators building out new commissary or ghost kitchen concepts will find a deeper cross-border graduate pool as a result of this consolidation, while energy-and-sustainability-focused kitchen programs within Escoffier's curriculum may increasingly inform CIB's own evolving offerings.
