Franchise Pipeline
Shipley Donuts closed the second quarter of 2026 with four signed franchise agreements committing nine new shops across Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and Oklahoma — a pace the Houston-based chain's CEO called one of the strongest growth periods in its nearly 90-year history. For equipment dealers and kitchen designers serving QSR and fast-casual buildouts in the South and Midwest, the pipeline represents a wave of fresh-production donut shops, each requiring dedicated frying, proofing, glazing, and kolache-baking infrastructure.
The nine units include three shops in Cincinnati with Kolache Co. LLC, two in Raleigh with Plexus Raleigh LLC, three in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with Dough Pokes LLC, and a first-of-its-kind nonprofit franchise location in South Dallas. Earlier in H1, the brand opened its first El Paso, Texas, shop in March, followed by market entries in Bossier City, Louisiana, in May and Vienna, Virginia, in June — each a ground-up or conversion build requiring Shipley's fresh, made-daily production model.
Kitchen Operations Angle
Shipley's format is equipment-intensive by design: every location produces donuts and kolaches from scratch daily, meaning fryers, deck or rack ovens, proofing cabinets, refrigerated dough prep tables, and commercial coffee equipment are core capital goods in every new-unit package. The brand's catering expansion adds another layer of back-of-house complexity — a dedicated online catering platform now channels group orders for pickup or delivery at more than 350 locations, with custom bundles, coffee, and a newly permanent mini-kolache item. Operators at those 350-plus sites must hold sufficient cold and ambient storage to stage pre-ordered catering sets alongside normal walk-in traffic, a workflow challenge familiar to prep-and-storage specifiers working with high-volume QSR clients.
The brand's nonprofit South Dallas unit is also worth watching for consultants: franchise arrangements with community-development operators often come with tighter capital budgets, creating pressure to specify efficient, right-sized cooking equipment that meets the brand's production standards without overbuilding. As Shipley targets further growth across the South, Southeast, and Midwest — with a 90th-anniversary milestone arriving in September 2026 — dealers and reps in those regions can expect a steady cadence of new-unit equipment bids. The chain currently operates more than 390 franchised and company-owned locations across 13 states.
