Recognition Program Targets Real-World Operator Challenges The National Restaurant Association Show has opened applications for the 2027 Kitchen Innovations (KI) Awards, a recognition program spotlighting equipment and technology designed to address everyday operational pressures facing foodservice operators. Applications close December 16, 2026. Award recipients will be announced in February and featured in a dedicated KI Showroom at the 2027 Show, running May 22–25 at McCormick Place in Chicago. According to the National Restaurant Association's State of the Restaurant Industry 2026 report, 60% of operators plan equipment investments to enhance customer experience. The KI Awards recognize solutions across automation and robotics, integrated data systems, and off-premise service. "The Kitchen Innovations Awards have always been about spotlighting the products that solve the real, everyday challenges our operators face — labor pressures, food safety, energy costs, and speed of service," said Tom Cindric, president of exhibitions for Informa Connect Foodservice Group. "Every year, this program gives the industry a trusted, curated look at the technologies genuinely moving foodservice forward, and it gives the innovators behind them the recognition they've earned."

Award Benefits and Judging Panel Winners receive turnkey exhibit space in the KI Showroom, media promotion before and during the show, inclusion in dedicated press events, five additional exhibitor badges, and lifetime use of the Kitchen Innovations logo for their product. Philip Hartman, co-founder of Instafarm, a 2026 KI Award recipient, said: "The Kitchen Innovation Award is huge for us. It's really special just to receive that mark. The judges on the panel have a lot of expertise and experience, and so they're looking at what would be helpful for operations in different food service areas." The judging panel includes foodservice operations leaders, design consultants, and industry executives: Dan Bendall of FoodStrategy, Inc.; Cha Nye Farley of Cedartown Foods; Christine Guyott of Rippe Associates; Frank Inoa of Inspire Brands; Jim Krueger Jr. of the Air Force Services Center; Phillip Landgraf of Ricca Design Studios; Juan Martinez of Profitality Labor Guru; and Alfred Spear of Walt Disney World Resort.

Why It Matters

For equipment manufacturers and foodservice tech vendors, the KI Awards represent a high-visibility platform to reach operators actively evaluating solutions. The 2027 Show attracts thousands of foodservice professionals, making award designation a meaningful competitive advantage in a market where operational efficiency continues to drive purchasing decisions.
